Reading Strategies
At PS 76, Kindergarteners are using their Reading Strategies to help them become stronger readers that read for longer! Can you try and use some of the Reading Strategies learned at school while reading at home?
Eagle Eye: We use Eagle Eye by looking at all of the details in the pictures. On each page, we point to and talk about all of the objects we see. What do you see? Who is in the picture? Where are they? Some of the words you use when you talk about the pictures will be the words you read in the text.
Lips the Fish: Look at the first letter of a tricky word. Get your mouth ready to say that first letter. This will help you think about all of the possible words it could say. For instance, if you see a picture of a tree but the word you're trying to say starts with a "b," the word could be "branch"!
Stretchy the Snake: Look at each letter of the word. Say the letter sound of each letter. Put those sounds together to make the word. Try to TAP OUT each letter like in Fundations!
Please read with your child for 10 or more minutes every night!
The books in your child's Book Baggie will be changed once a week. These books correlate to your child's Reading Level. Some books should be a challenge, but please let your teacher know if your child is having too many difficulties with the books. We will retest your child to make sure they are reading on the appropriate level!
Here are some documents to help you support your child at home!
